For the third consecutive week, President Donald Trump’s approval rating remained at its lowest level since returning to the White House, with just one in three Americans approving of his job performance, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos survey.

The poll, released on Monday, Aug. 31

, found that only 33% of Americans approved of Trump’s performance, a rating that has held for three straight weeks of Reuters/Ipsos tracking.

Trump's performance in the Aug. 31 poll is the lowest approval rating he has seen in Reuters/Ipsos tracking since his return to the White House in 2025. The numbers also tie Trump’s worst approval rating during his first term in office, which came in December 2017.

The president's approval rating of 33% is also lower than former

President Joe Biden’s lowest approval rating of 35% in October 2024.

According to Reuters/Ipsos, the four-day poll was conducted among 1,167 U.S. adults with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

A fired-up Democratic Party

Trump’s struggling approval rating comes just two months before November’s midterm elections, a cause for concern fo Republicans across the country as the party seeks to hold onto slim majorities in both the House of Representatives and Senate.

According to the Reuters/Ipsos poll, 46% of self-identified Democrats said they were “very enthusiastic” about voting in November, while only 31% of Republicans felt the same enthusiasm.

In the same poll, 36% of Independents said they would vote for Democrats in November while 22% said they would vote for the GOP.

Gas prices, Iran sink Trump

In the most recent poll, only 36% of Americans said they approved of the Iran war, which has now raged on for more than six months.

The conflict has also raised gas prices across the United States, with the average gallon of gas now coming in at $4.08 per gallon, almost $1 more expensive compared to August 2025, according to AAA.

The cost of living has become a deeply hurtful issue for the president, as 71% of Americans, including four in 10 Republicans, said they disapproved of how Trump has handled the cost of living in the United States.
