Consumer Reports is urging parents to stop buying and using Millie Moon diapers after analyzing hundreds of reports from parents that claim the diapers caused painful rashes on their babies.
On Oct. 16, nonprofit Consumer Reports asked luxury diaper brand Millie Moon to recall its diapers based on more than 600 reports made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The reports, including more than 300 made over the past month, describe redness, rashes, burning and bleeding on babies' buttocks and genitals. Many reported ER visits and other medical treatment.
According to reports, several parents said they had been using Millie Moon diapers for years without issues, until a recent purchase of a new box.
In a report filed on Oct. 8, a parent
said their 2-month-old began developing a rash days after using Millie Moon diapers for the first time. Overnight, the rash became "much worse," appearing more like a chemical burn than a diaper rash, the parent wrote. The rash didn't respond to two diaper creams. Ultimately, first aid was administered by a non-medical professional, as indicated in the report.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission told USA TODAY on Oct. 27 that it cannot comment on individual brands or active or potential product safety investigations. USA TODAY also reached out to Millie Moon on Oct. 27.
Millie Moon was established in 2021 and offers luxury baby products, including diapers, wipes and training pants. In 2025, the baby care brand partnered with children's educator and activist Ms. Rachel to release potty training pants, available exclusively at Target.
What are parents saying about Millie Moon diapers?
In a report filed on Oct. 5, another parent said that after using Millie Moon diapers, their newborn developed a "horrible rash on her bottom, causing the skin to peel on both butt cheeks despite increasing her diaper rash cream use." The parent switched the baby to a different diaper brand and the rash went away. When the parent tried the Millie Moon diapers again, the rash reappeared.
Others have reported issues with Millie Moon pull-ups. In another report filed on Oct. 5, a parent said they tried Millie Moon training pants (pull-ups) over their 3-year-old's underwear while potty training to help keep the child dry at night. The next morning, any part of the child's skin that touched the pull-ups − largely his stomach and back − was red and itchy. The irritation continued for two or three days and went away after the child stopped wearing the Millie Moon pull-ups.
In addition to the hundreds of reports filed on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website, parents are taking to the New Parents sub-Reddit to document concerns. One Reddit user, who said their baby sustained "severe chemical burns" from the diapers, encouraged parents to file a report if they have had negative experiences.
Last week, Consumer Reports posted an Instagram Reel encouraging families to stop purchasing Millie Moon diapers. As of Oct. 27, the video has more than 200 comments. Some shared recent negative experiences with the brand, while others said they have never had issues with Millie Moon products.
"We were using them for nine or 10 months and then as soon as they updated the diaper to have the print above the logo, we started having bad diaper rashes," one user wrote in the video's comments. "Switched to Parasol and haven't had issues!"
"We love Millie Moon," another user commented. "Never had any issues and they were one of the better brands we opted for. This is disheartening."
What is Millie Moon doing?
Mille Moon told Consumer Reports that each product complaint it receives is reviewed individually and referred to its quality team for investigation. The company said it hasn't changed the materials, suppliers or construction of its diapers. The only recent change, debuted in February, is that the printed design on the outer layer of the diaper now extends further up.
Millie Moon commissioned an independent U.S. lab to test the diapers before and after the visual design change, the company told Consumer Reports. Across the tested samples, there was no evidence of contamination, unexpected substances, manufacturing defects or product performance issues.
Where are Millie Moon diapers sold?
