Book lovers looking to upgrade their Kindles now have more portable, lightweight options.
Amazon announced in a news release this week that the newly designed devices are thinner and lighter than the brand’s previous e-readers. The company is also releasing accessories such as a hands-free Bluetooth page-turner and an upright charging dock.
The new Kindle devices have been redesigned without the raised border that hides parts of the reading surface.
The new devices also come in new colors that wrap around the devices from front to back:
- Ube (purple)
- Alpine Sky (light blue)
- Seaglass Green (seafoam)
- Graphite (dark gray)
- Fig (burgundy/plum available for the first time on the e-reader)
Amazon released its first-ever Kindle in November 2007, noting that the device “reads like paper” and allows customers to read blogs, books, magazines and newspapers. In 2025, users read more than 720 billion pages
on Kindle devices, the company said.
Here’s what we know about the new releases.
