Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been convicted for driving at nearly four times the legal alcohol limit.
The 23-year-old pled guilty during a trial on Aug. 19 at the High Court of Justice of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Asencio was stopped at a sobriety checkpoint in Gran Canaria on Aug. 16 and recorded an alcohol level of 0.90 mg/l of breath — almost four times the legal limit of 0.25 mg/l.
He has been banned from driving for eight months and fined €14,400. According to ESPN, Real Madrid is likely to sanction Asencio for the offense.
This isn't the first time that Asencio has faced legal trouble recently. The defender is due to stand trial in Gran Canaria this week over alleged recording of intimate images of a woman and a minor, and the distribution
of those images without consent.
Asencio will stand trial despite both alleged victims withdrawing their complaints against him. The pair has maintained their complaints against Asencio's former Madrid youth teammates: Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez and Andres Garcia.
Asencio has maintained his innocence throughout the process.
After signing for Madrid's youth academy in 2017, Asencio made his first-team debut in 2024. He has made 80 total appearances for Los Blancos, but has yet to play this season due to injury.
