Kaleb Johnson is getting a fresh start after a disappointing tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers are trading Johnson to the Green Bay Packers, according to multiple reports. Terms of the deal involving the second-year running back were not immediately disclosed.
Johnson was a third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft but struggled to find his footing with the Steelers. The Iowa product appeared in 10 games as a rookie but handled just 28 carries. He only managed 69 yards on those carries (2.5 yards per carry average) and caught just one pass for nine yards.
Johnson found himself buried behind Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle on Pittsburgh's roster entering his second season. He racked up 53 yards on 17 preseason carries but didn't do enough
to separate himself in the battle for the Steelers' third-string job.
Johnson will now look to prove himself with the Packers. The 6-1, 224-pound running back likely battle third-year back MarShawn Lloyd for playing time behind Josh Jacobs.
Johnson will also provide insurance in case Jacobs – who was recently charged with two misdemeanors stemming from a May arrest – faces a NFL suspension or is placed on the commissioner's exempt list.
