Luigi Mangione's state trial is expected to begin in less than a month.
Mangione — the man arrested in connection to the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on a Manhattan street in 2024 — is facing multiple charges in his New York State case, including second-degree murder.

What charges is Luigi Mangione facing in his NY case?
Mangione, 28, has multiple cases against him after he was arrested in a Pennsylvania McDonald's during a five-day nationwide manhunt in December 2024.
The first case expected to be heard is his state trial, slated for September. In that case, he is facing second-degree murder, possession of a forged Instrument, and multiple weapons-related charges.
He also is expected to go on trial for federal stalking
charges in January.
In both cases, Mangione has pleaded not guilty.
When do Luigi Mangione's trials start?
Mangione's state trial date is set for Sept. 8 in Manhattan, when jury selection is expected to begin.
His federal trial is slated to start with jury selection on January 5, 2027 in Manhattan.
However, federal prosecutors have scheduled a court hearing this week for 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14. Multiple reports have claimed that plea negotiations are currently playing out.
Where is Mangione being held?
Mangione is currently being held in Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center.
Will Mangione's trial be televised?
His state trial will not be televised, despite Mangione's legal team previously requesting the court proceedings be live-streamed, according to Vanity Fair reporting.
Dozens of journalists have filed to cover the trial, however, and an overflow room will be available, where a live feed will be shown.
