It wouldn't be an awards show red carpet without Law Roach causing confusion about Tom Holland and Zendaya's wedding.
Zendaya's longtime stylist made headlines in March by claiming at the Actor Awards that
the "Spider-Man" stars had already tied the knot. But on the Emmy Awards red carpet Monday, Sept. 14, Roach changed his tune.
"I actually lied," he told Variety and CNN at the star-studded event. "She wasn't married. They actually haven't had an official ceremony yet. It's going to happen after the 'Dune' press tour."
It wasn't immediately clear whether Roach was being serious, and the red carpet interviewer expressed heavy skepticism, asking, "Are you messing with us?" Roach doubled down, though: "No. The wedding hasn't happened."
USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Holland and Zendaya for comment.
Roach originally seemed to spill the beans about Zendaya and Holland's wedding while speaking to Access Hollywood at the Actor Awards on March 1. At the time, he told the outlet that the couple's "wedding has already happened," teasing, "you missed it." When asked if this was true, Roach replied, "It's very true."
But in the weeks that followed, the actors never confirmed whether their wedding had really taken place. Zendaya remained tight-lipped and dodged any and all wedding talk, even as she made the rounds promoting a movie, "The Drama," all about her character getting married.
By June, Holland finally appeared to confirm the wedding happened.
In an interview with Esquire, the "Odyssey" actor said AI-generated images spread online purporting to show his wedding. Holland said his grandmother saw the images, thought they were real, and said she hadn't been invited. So when Esquire asked if Holland had to "send out messages to any other family members," he replied, "No, because they were all there."
This comment was widely interpreted as confirmation that a wedding ceremony did take place and that Holland's family was there. Holland also later referred to Zendaya as his "wife" in an interview, and in August, People reported the couple had a wedding celebration in the English countryside.
But just when fans thought that was the end of it, Roach maintained at the Emmys that the couple's official wedding isn't happening until after the press tour for "Dune: Part Three," which opens on Dec. 18.
"She's been his wife for a really long time now, but it's not official yet," Roach told Variety and CNN, though the stylist acknowledged that because he "lied before," he "could" be lying again now.
Zendaya and Holland met when they were cast in 2017's "Spider-Man: Homecoming," and they've been notoriously private about their relationship throughout their time as a couple. The pair are coming off their fourth "Spider-Man" movie together, "Brand New Day."
At the 2026 Emmys, Zendaya is nominated for best actress in a drama series for her HBO series "Euphoria."
