Parallel parking is a rite of passage in Philadelphia, whether you snag a giant spot, are trying to squeeze in during rush hour traffic or have to play a little bit of bumper cars to stop from circling the block for the seventh time.
In fact, parallel parking is so important to Philadelphia culture, that this weekend will host the official Philadelphia Parallel Parking Association Championship.
Pre-selected competitors will partake in three challenges to prove their parking prowess:
- "One shot" - One attempt to get closest to the curb with no corrections.
- "Tight squeeze" - Get within 6 inches of the curb in the least moves, twelve inches of clearance.
- "Under duress" - Park the fastest amid barriers and distractions.
When is the Philadelphia Parallel Parking Championship?
The PPPA Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3.
The parking feats will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. in Headhouse Plaza.
