News broke this weekend that Jared Kushner and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries — two people from different sides of the political aisle — held a private meeting.
The meet-up, meant to find common ground, was held in Manhattan, The New York Times reported.
But why was it held in New York City? Here's what we know.
Kushner, Jeffries meet
First covered by the Times, Kushner — son-in-law and close ally to President Trump — and Jeffries, one of the nation's top Democrats, met to discuss multiple topics, including immigration and cost of living.
“Throughout this Congress, Republicans have adopted a my-way-or-the-highway approach to governing that has failed the American people,” Jeffries said in a statement after the meeting, the outlet reported.
“In every conversation that we have with
the Trump administration, we will continue to make it explicitly clear that the affordability crisis is not a hoax, and nothing short of transformational policy change is acceptable.”
Why did Jeffries, Kushner meet in NYC?
The pair met up in Manhattan, NYT reported, at a private space owned by someone the two both knew.
It is not immediately clear who the mutual friend is, or where the exact location of where the meeting took place.
Jeffries, a New York representative, lives in Brooklyn; Kushner and Ivanka Trump reportedly live in South Florida.
It is not immediately clear why NYC was chosen as the place to meet, but Kushner has deep ties in the city alongside Jeffries. He had attended New York University for his graduate degrees, and his family owns real estate in the state.
