What is the story about?
Alabama's
primaries for the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th congressional districts were moved to Aug. 11 after the state allowed for the use of a 2023 congressional map. The Republican-led redistricting effort was determined to have intentionally discriminated against Black voters – but the conservative court’s latest redistricting decision benefits Republican efforts to hold on to a narrow U.S. House majority in the midterm elections.

Alabama House primary results
District 1
- Republican: Jerry Carl (74.7% of votes) defeated Austin Sidwell (17.6% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
- Democrat: Clyde Jones won the race uncontested.
District 2
- Republican: Rhett Marques (50.0% of votes) defeated Hampton Harris (21.6% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
- Democrat: Incumbent Rep. Shomari Figures won the race uncontested.
District 6
- Republican: Incumbent Rep. Gary Palmer (87% of votes) defeated Case Dixon (13% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
- Democrat: Maurice Mercer (64.2% of votes) defeated Ashtyn Kennedy (21.4% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
District 7
- Republican: Ammie Akin (73.4% of votes) defeated David Perry (26.6% of votes) with an estimated 99% of votes counted.
- Democrat: Incumbent Rep. Terri Sewell won the race uncontested.
