Katy Perry used to feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind. Now she's had a similar sensation at her latest show.
At the Isle of MTV Malta festival on July 22, the "Firework" singer, 41, found herself briefly trapped inside a giant inflatable plastic water bottle she used to crowd surf during the concert in Floriana, Malta.
Videos shared on social media show the pop star struggling to roll back to the stage inside the large prop as the crowd inadvertently carried it in the wrong direction.
"Go back to the stage!" she yelled in one video. "Oh, my God!"
Festivalgoers initially moved the bottle prop toward the back of the audience before eventually guiding it back to a giant straw near the stage, where she finished her performance of "I Kissed
a Girl."
The former "American Idol" judge has used the giant plastic water bottle to interact with fans during her recent festival run in Europe. She addressed the mishap in a video for Isle of MTV Malta’s Instagram page, where she called the prop her favorite moment from her shows.
"I basically get in this giant inflatable water bottle, and I roll it into the crowd," she said. "And tonight I went kind of far and I was a little bit worried I was not gonna come back."
Perry's summer festival circuit comes ahead of the release of her concert film, "Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour - Live from Paris," which is set to screen in cinemas on Sept 2. The film premiered on June 8 at the Tribeca Festival, where she discussed her festival run in a Q&A.
"I feel like something has shifted inside of me," Perry told moderator Tomás Mier. "I feel like everything has a season, everything has a time. At 41, I'm trying all different things, and have had so many privileges and checked so many boxes and goals. I mean, how do I climb Everest? I don't need to climb it again. But I will climb other mountains, and sometimes those mountains are just taking my daughter to school on a bicycle."
Her next show will be at the Sunny Hill Festival in Pristina, Kosovo on July 31.
