Days after Dolly Parton was laid to rest, reports began to emerge online that her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame had allegedly been vandalized.
Ana Martinez, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce's senior vice president of media and talent relations, told TMZ that a fan reported that someone had attempted to scratch off her name on the star and stole flowers from the makeshift memorial on Aug. 31.
On Sept. 1, crew members with the Hollywood Historic Trust, which maintains the stars on the Walk of Fame, could be seen beginning restoration of Parton's star.
Martinez told ABC 7 that the trust had already planned to replace Parton's star due to existing cracks from its years on the walkway.
USA TODAY has reached out to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce
for comment.
The Hollywood Historic Trust shared a photo of restoration progress on its social media, showing a blank red star set in an otherwise empty square.
"The Hollywood Historic Trust and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce are proud to honor the legacy of Dolly Parton with a replacement of her star," the post's caption read. "The new star will be available for viewing this Friday."
When did Dolly Parton receive her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?
Parton received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on June 14, 1984, while she was promoting "Rhinestone," in which she co-starred with Sylvester Stallone.
By 1984, Parton was already seen as an entertainment icon, with nearly two decades of success topping the country charts and the popularity of her theatrical film debut as Doralee Rhodes in 9 to 5.
From that role, Parton was nominated for an Academy Award and a Grammy for producing the movie's theme song, "9 to 5," which became one of the most well-known songs in her musical catalog.
The film "Rhinestone" was considered a commercial flop, failing to recoup its $28 million budget and reportedly grossing only about $22 million at the box office, according to IMDb.
However, Parton's star transcends the movie it was associated with and stands as a representation of her nearly 60-year career in the music and entertainment industry.
"In the four-and-a-half decades since her national-chart début, she remains one of the most-successful female artists in the history of the country genre which garnered her the title of ‘The Queen of Country Music’, with twenty-five number-one singles, and a record forty-one top-10 country albums," reads her Hollywood Walk of Fame entry.
"She has the distinction of having performed on a top-five country hit in each of the last five decades and is tied with Reba McEntire as the only country artists with No. 1 singles in four consecutive decades."
