Oscar-nominated director Michael Mann was reportedly hospitalized after being injured at a Los Angeles gun range.
"On Saturday, at a gun range, a weapon accidentally discharged while holstered resulting in a superficial injury to film director Michael Mann," his representative said in a statement to USA TODAY on Sunday, Nov. 1. "He was treated and is being released."
The "Heat" and "Miami Vice" director, 83, accidentally shot himself in the leg during target practice, according to People and TMZ. The latter outlet first reported the news.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY that around 4 p.m. on Oct. 31 officers responded to the 11000 block of Missouri Avenue – where members-only shooting club The Range LA
is located – for a radio call of shots fired. An investigation found the shooting to be accidental.

The person, whom the LAPD did not identify, "was transported to a local hospital in stable condition."
Mann racked up best director and best picture nominations at the 2000 Academy Awards for "The Insider" and also received a best picture nod for "The Aviator."
His follow-up to 2023's "Ferrari" will be "Heat 2," based on the 2022 novel he wrote as both a prequel and sequel to his 1995 film starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.
