Jaguar Land Rover recalls over 23,000 vehicles. See affected models

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling over 23,000 vehicles due to an electronic system error that may lead to the loss of drive power and exterior lighting.

Jaguar Land Rover issued a recall for 23,677 vehicles on Sept. 17 because a DC-DC converter may malfunction due to an electrical overload that can occur during high power demand, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall report. Additionally, a software error can cause the converter to stop functioning, which may result in the loss of drive power and exterior lighting.

Electric vehicles are equipped with a large, high-voltage lithium ion battery (responsible for the travel motor) and a low-voltage lead battery (responsible for smaller components like cameras and lights).

The lithium ion battery is charged at a charging station and the lead battery is charged with power from the lithium ion one, according to Panasonic. When the lithium ion battery is charge, a DC-DC converter converts high-voltage DC power into low-voltage DC power.

As of Sept. 17, Jaguar Land Rover received 393 claims and field reports regarding the outlined issue in the U.S., according to the recall report. The company was not aware of any accidents, injuries or fires.

Jaguar Land Rover estimates 100% of the outlined vehicles are affected by the issue, according to the recall report.

What to do if your Jaguar Land Rover vehicle is recalled

Dealerships will update the vehicle software for free, according to the recall report. The update will introduce a new "limp-home" mode, which will provide a warning to the driver in case the DC-DC converter goes offline for any reason.
