New Jersey Devils center Jack Hughes once again found himself on the receiving end of a brutal play, taking another hard hit that left his teeth worse for wear.
During the Devils’ game against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday, Oct. 27, Hughes was struck in the face by the stick of Stars forward Justin Hryckowian in the first period.
The impact sent Hughes to the ice, and he appeared to spit out several teeth before leaving the game and heading to the dressing room. The ref was then seen picking up the loose tooth off the ice.
Shortly after leaving, Hughes returned to the game outfitted with a protective face shield. Undeterred by his injury, he scored the final
goal of the night, helping to propel the Devils to a 5-1 victory over the Stars.
This isn’t the first time Hughes has faced dental misfortune.
Prior to winning Olympic gold for the United States at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, he also lost teeth after taking a stick to the mouth. Hughes’ ultimate payback came when he scored the overtime winner against Canada in the men’s hockey final, securing a 2-1 victory.
