Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster is not yet eligible to make his debut for No. 4 Buford, as first reported by High School On SI and later confirmed to USA TODAY Sports by Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Executive Director Tim Scott.
According to the original report, Brewster is registered at the school, but his eligibility paperwork has not yet been turned in to the GHSA.
“Jalen is registered and attending classes here, but we have not turned him in for eligibility yet as we are waiting on all of the documentation GHSA requires,” Buford athletic director Tom Beuglas told High School On SI. “His father is working on getting this completed.”
Scott confirmed this information in an email to USA TODAY Sports.
"As of this morning the
GHSA has received no information on this athlete."
Buford is set to travel to Mallard Creek on Friday, Sept. 4, and Brewster's availability for the game is questionable.
Brewster announced his decision to transfer from Cedar Hill (Texas) High School following 2025 GHSA Class 6A state champion Buford's 39-19 win over Gainesville in its season opener that was broadcasted on ESPN. The Wolves were idle last Friday, Aug. 28.
A 2026 preseason All-America first-team selection and ALL-USA Southwest first-team selection, Brewster is ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the USA TODAY Sports 2027 composite ranking.
He committed to Texas Tech last October, choosing the Red Raiders over Indiana, Ohio State and Texas A&M.
