NFL teams in the Northeast will have to gameplan for two opponents in Week 3: the team they're facing, and Mother Nature.

A nor'easter is ravaging parts of the country in Week 3, with rain and winds pounding the Atlantic coast, forcing some teams to pay extra close attention to the weather.

Luckily for the NFL and its teams, there aren't too many games that will be directly affected by the storm. With the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, New England Patriots all on the road this weekend, only a pair of games – the New York Giants vs. Tennessee Titans and the Washington Commanders vs. Seattle Seahawks – should come into play.

How will those games be impacted? Here's the latest forecast, weather updates and more for this weekend's NFL slate.

Nor'easter weather updates, forecast

The

nor'easter is expected to last through the evening of Monday, Sept. 28, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS forecasts the storm as tapering off through Sunday, with light rains falling through Monday night.

At its strongest, there will be wind gusts up to 60 mph, with rain and a possibility of thunderstorms.

The storm is expected to impact southern Virginia through southern Maine, with New Jersey the most affected.

NFL weather rules

Rule 17, Articles 4 through 11 of the NFL rulebook details emergencies, which includes weather. The power to suspend or delay a game rests in the hands of NFL officials, and the Commissioner (Roger Goodell) "has the authority to review the circumstances of each emergency and to adjust procedures in whatever manner the Commissioner deems appropriate."

Giants vs. Titans weather updates

The Titans travel to MetLife Stadium for their Week 3 matchup, something of a homecoming for Robert Saleh and Brian Daboll. Daboll was the head coach of the Giants between 2022 and 2025, while Robert Saleh coached the Jets from 2021 to 2024.

This game is in the direct impact of the nor'easter, with the storm lasting the weekend through Monday night. Here's the forecast for Sunday, per the National Weather Service:

"Showers. High near 67. Breezy, with a northeast wind 16 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible."

Lions vs. Jets weather updates

The Jets won't be home at MetLife, with the Giants in town for their matchup vs. the Titans. Instead, New York travels to Detroit for their Week 3 matchup. Even better: the tilt won't be affected by the storms, as Ford Field is indoors.

Commanders vs. Seahawks weather updates

Rain is in the forecast for Sunday's matchup between the Commanders and Seahawks, but nothing out of the ordinary. Light rain is expected to fall with winds up to 13 mph at around 1 p.m. ET kickoff time, making for an ordinary rainy day at the stadium in Landover.

Jaguars vs. Patriots weather updates

The Patriots travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars on Sunday, so they'll be well out of the way of the storm's reaches come 1 p.m. ET kickoff time. Weather in Jacksonville is expected to be warm, with the temperatures hovering around 80 degrees and the skies partly cloudy for kickoff.

Eagles vs. Bears weather updates

The Eagles are set for a "Monday Night Football" matchup vs. the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago. There is no precipitation in the forecast for Monday, with temperatures in the 60s around 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff. Chicago won't be directly affected by the nor'easter.

What is a nor'easter?

The National Weather Service defines a nor'easter as "a storm along the East Coast of North America, so called because the winds over the coastal area are typically from the northeast."

Nor'easters usually bring heavy rains or snow along with winds, and can occur any time during the year, but are most prevalent from September through April.
