On the undercard of the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Christian Mbilli, a knockout victory created as much fear as jubilation.
Bek Nurmaganbet of Kazakhstan dropped Marcos Vazquez Rodriguez of Mexico with three seconds left in the first round, of the super middleweight Saturday, Oct. 31.
The knockout came off a three-punch combination during a preliminary bout in Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Vazquez, a 37-year-old from Mexico, fell underneath the bottom rope, landed on the canvas and his head hit hard.
It looked like Vazquez was unconscious even though his eyes never closed. He appeared locked in a vacanta stare.
Nurmaganbet came back to check on Vazquez as medical personnel sounded the Mexican boxer.
Vazquez was given an oxygen mask
and eventually seated on his corner stool. Soon after he rose to his feet and looked alert.
It was Nurmaganbet’s 15th career knockout in 17 fights as he improved to 17-0.
Nurmaganbet took control of the fight early with his jab and dropped Vazquez before knockout occurred.
In the main event, Alvarez will fight Mbilli for the WBC super middleweight championship.
