German automaker Mercedes-Benz produces some of the best luxury vehicles on the market, including classy sedans and practical family SUVs. Affordability isn't always synonymous with the Mercedes brand, but the company does produce some new vehicles that fall below the average new vehicle price of nearly $50,000.
There are some entry-level small Mercedes cars and subcompact SUVs that are affordable enough for most drivers. The cheapest brand-new Mercedes-Benz that drivers can get in 2026 costs under $42,000.
How much is the cheapest Mercedes-Benz?
The Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 starts at $41,500 before taxes and additional fees. It's available in three trims, including an AMG version.

Mercedes' GLA model is a two-row subcompact SUV that seats five. It has 38.0 inches of rear legroom. The GLA has 15.4
cubic feet of cargo space.
The GLA SUV is best suited for commuters and young couples, since its rear seat and cargo area aren't particularly roomy. It may be affordable based on average new car prices, but Mercedes doesn't skimp on standard features and the GLA showcases the brand's signature athletic and refined design language.
Is the cheapest Mercedes-Benz a good SUV to buy?
The subcompact SUV uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a mild-hybrid system to produce 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It accelerates from 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds. The GLA achieves 26 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

It comes standard with heated sport front seats, MB-Tex upholstery and heated side mirrors. The GLA also includes remote start via the Mercedes-Benz app, blind spot assist and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system display.
Mercedes' most affordable new model for 2026 has enjoyable driving dynamics and a long list of standard features. Drivers can also add optional features like a head-up display or Wi-Fi hot spot to enhance its ownership experience.
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLA may be the cheapest new Mercedes-Benz to buy, but it isn't the undisputed best model in the subcompact luxury SUV segment. There are some options that arguably offer more value for the money.
The best Mercedes-Benz GLA luxury subcompact SUV alternatives
Two subcompact luxury SUV alternatives to the Mercedes-Benz GLA that could offer more value to drivers are the Lexus UX and the BMW X1.

The 2026 Lexus UX 300h starts at $38,350. It uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor to produce 196 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque. The UX earns 45 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway.
Lexus' subcompact luxury SUV is more affordable and more efficient than the GLA. Furthermore, Lexus SUVs have a history of reliability and longevity.
The 2027 BMW X1 starts at $43,200. It uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to produce 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The X1 achieves 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.
BMW's subcompact luxury SUV is more powerful than the Mercedes-Benz GLA and it has more cargo capacity. If you're in the market for an affordable luxury SUV, there are multiple options that offer great value for the money for under $44,000.
