Two people are dead after a small plane crashed in northeast Louisiana on the morning of Aug. 6, local officials confirmed.
The crash, which involved a Beechcraft Bonanza, took place just about 10:30 a.m. CT in the city of Bogalusa, the Federal Aviation Administration told USA TODAY.
According to the FAA, the plane crashed during takeoff at George R. Carr Memorial Airfield. The airport is in Washington Parish, not far from the Louisiana and Mississippi state lines.
The federal agency said two people were on board when the plane went down.
The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, which responded to the crash with other local agencies, including the Bogalusa Police Department, said in a news release that both people on the plane were pronounced dead
at the scene.
Their identities were not immediately known.
What caused the Louisiana plane crash?
The cause of the plane crash remained under investigation on Aug. 6.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the wreck, with the NTSB leading the investigation.
People were asked to avoid the area while investigators and emergency personnel complete their work, the sheriff's office said.
