Oregon quarterback Dante Moore will not play in the Ducks' upcoming matchup against UCLA.
Moore was listed as out in the Big Ten availability report released on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
There was already a strong
indication from reports Moore would not play in the game. Instead, Dylan Raiola will make his first start for Oregon against the Bruins.
The availability report comes 11 days after Moore took a scary hit during the game against Southern California on Sept. 29, when linebacker Desman Stephens II hit the quarterback in the head with his forearm as he was attempting to slide off a scramble. Moore immediately went into the fencing position, an indication of a serious concussion, and was taken off the field on a stretcher and into an ambulance that took him to a nearby hospital.
The injury appeared severe, but Moore suffered only a concussion with no additional injuries.
While he will not play, Moore has made progress from the concussion, returning to practice during the week. Raiola said on Wednesday Moore has been vocal as well in the preparation for the game.
"Similar to what we said before, we're going to continue to make sure we do what's best for Dante as we move forward," Lanning said on Monday, Oct 5. "But it was great to see him back out there with his teammates and able to get a little work in today."
Raiola's first start for the Ducks comes after his heroics in the pivotal win over USC. In relief of Moore, he threw for 289 passing yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter, to move Oregon to 3-1 on the season.
UCLA coach Bob Chesney said regardless of the situation, his team is preparing to face either quarterback.
"There's not a giant drop off between the two of those guys," Chesney said. "They're both really good."
