San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw was issued a one-game suspension by the NFL on Monday, Oct. 12, after he headbutted a helmetless opponent during his team's 32-29 win over the Seattle Seahawks.
After a late hit on Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, Greenlaw came face to face with Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV on the Seattle sideline. Greenlaw then headbutted Jones, who was not wearing a helmet.
Greenlaw was ejected after league officials in New York reviewed the incident.
"That's how it is," 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said after the game. "You're going to get baited big time, especially when you're on their bench. They're going to get close, and they told me that he headbutted a guy without a helmet. So, if that's exactly what happened
then we got to be a lot smarter than that. Can't do that."

Greenlaw is permitted to appeal his ban.
If his suspension stands, Greenlaw will miss the "Monday Night Football" matchup with the Washington Commanders.
The ejection was the third of Greenlaw's eight-year pro career. He also served a one-game suspension last year for allegedly threatening referee Brad Allen after a game.
