Some eligible iPhone owners can now file claims for money from a $250 million settlement in a class action lawsuit involving Apple.
In May, Apple agreed to the settlement to resolve a lawsuit that alleged it deceived consumers over artificial intelligence enhancements in some iPhones.
According to court filings, the lawsuit alleged Apple touted new AI technology, including Siri enhancements, while advertising the iPhone 16 in 2024, but the device did not contain the elements when it was released.
Apple, which denied the allegations, previously said in a statement to USA TODAY that it resolved the suit in an effort to continue "delivering the most innovative products and services to our users."
While the settlement is still awaiting final approval
from a judge before payments can be sent out, eligible iPhone owners can now file claims for money. The deadline to do so is in December. Here's what to know.
Who is eligible for money in Apple settlement?
Only people who purchased certain iPhone models within a specified time period are eligible to claim money from the settlement:
- Eligible devices: iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max
- Time period of purchase: June 10, 2024 to March 29, 2025

How to file a claim in Apple AI settlement
Those eligible for money from the settlement have until Dec. 21 to file a claim, which is the only way to receive a payout, according to the settlement website.
Claims can be filed online at aplsconnect.com/smartphoneaisettlement. When filling out the form, eligible filers must confirm they purchased an eligible device within the applicable time period. Those with multiple eligible devices should submit a claim for each device.
How much money can you get from Apple settlement?
Eligible claimants are slated to get a payout of $25 per device if the settlement is approved, according to the settlement website.
Depending on the number of approved claims, that total could increase to $95 per device.
Claimants will be able to select whether to receive their payment by physical or digital check.
When will Apple settlement payments be sent out?
While the claims portal is now open, consumers will have to wait to receive their money. The settlement will have to be approved in court before checks can be sent out.
The final approval hearing in the settlement is currently scheduled for Feb. 24, 2027. Updates will be posted on the settlement website.
What is the Apple class action lawsuit about?
The class action lawsuit against Apple was initially filed in March 2025 by California resident Peter Landsheft. Several other plaintiffs have since joined the case.
The lawsuit alleged that Apple falsely advertised AI enhancements known as Apple Intelligence to its iPhone 16, which was announcedin September 2024, according to the complaint.
The plaintiffs accused Apple of promoting a "dramatically enhanced Siri" as the focal point of the new Apple Intelligence technology. But when the iPhone 16 launched, the enhanced technology did not exist, the complaint says.
The complaint alleged Apple "deceived millions of consumers into spending hundreds of dollars on a phone they did not need, based on features that do not exist."
Apple denied the claims, according to filings. It also said it has delivered more than 20 Apple Intelligence features and planned on rolling out additional Siri Apple Intelligence features in future software updates.
