SAN FRANCISCO — The Golden State Valkyries are the 2026 WNBA champions, bringing a title to the Bay Area.
It's a win for everyone that reps the Bay. The Valkyries got a vice presidential congratulations from a fellow Bay Area native.
Kamala Harris , the 49th U.S. vice president, provided a very special message to the Valkyries on their accomplishment.
"Congratulations, Golden State Valkyries on your WNBA championship," Harris said in a video. "You all are just amazing and what you do to represent the Bay Area, our beloved Bay Area. What you have done to create community to enhance culture and only in two seasons. I cannot wait to see what you do next. But thank you for your power, for your grit, for your grace."
Harris was born in Oakland and grew up around the Bay Area. She held position at 27th District Attorney of San Francisco before being promoted to 32nd Attorney General of California, a U.S. Senator then vice president. She unsuccessfully ran for president in 2024.
The Valkyries social team posted Harris' congratulations video to their X account, formerly Twitter.
The Valkyries defeated the Atlanta Dream 68-63 to capture their first title in franchise history.
