With the women's volleyball regular season reaching the midpoint of October, the race toward the postseason is beginning to intensify. Only one undefeated team remains in the top 25.
That means another week atop the AVCA Coaches Poll for Nebraska.
The Cornhuskers boosted their NCAA Tournament resume over the week by picking up consecutive top-15 sweeps over Indiana and Wisconsin in Big Ten play, extending their regular-season wins streak to 48.
In its win over the Badgers, Nebraska got 31 combined kills from its star-studded duo of Harper Murray and Andi Jackson, nearly matching Wisconsin's team total of 36 kills. Murray was once again individually efficient in the straight-set
victory, posting an impressive .471 hitting percentage and owning 20 kills.
Pittsburgh sustained its first loss of the season in a four-set match against SMU on Wednesday, Oct 7. After dropping the first set against the Panthers, the Mustangs took the next three sets to hand Pitt its first home loss in 58 matches. SMU won a thrilling third-set rally, 38-36, with a 3-0 run on kills from Natalia Newsome.
Pitt got one back on the Mustangs on Sunday, Oct. 11, sweeping SMU 3-0 in Dallas.
