Serena and Venus Williams will face Maya Joint and Hao-Ching Chan in the first round of the US Open women's doubles championship, the United States Tennis Association announced.
As a wild card to compete in singles at Wimbledon, the 44-year-old Serena lost in the first round to Joint, injuring her knee and causing her to withdraw from doubles with Venus.
The Williams sisters, who have won the US Open doubles title twice, received a wild card entry into the main field. The last time they competed at this tournament as partners was in 2022, when they lost in the first round to Linda Nosková and Lucie Hradecká.
The sisters played their first doubles match together since that 2022 U.S. Open in the Cincinnati Masters on Aug. 17, but lost a first-round
thriller to Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns.
Both will be making their second appearance this year in New York, as Serena teamed up with Carlos Alcaraz in mixed doubles, reaching the quarterfinals, while Venus lost her first-round singles match to Sofia Kenin.
The tournament's No. 1 seed is Taylor Townsend and Kateřina Siniaková, who lost in last year's final to Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe. This time around, Routliffe will team up with Aldila Sutjiadi as the No. 9 seed, and Dabrowski will partner with Luisa Stefani as the No. 2 seed.
