Mike Gundy is returning to college football, but not as a coach.
Gundy, who was fired by Oklahoma State during the 2025 season after parts of 21 seasons with the program, will be a part of HBO/TNT's broadcast for Arizona-West Virginia in Week 6, per multiple reports on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Gundy will serve as a studio analyst for the game, alongside Champ Bailey, Takeo Spikes and host Jordan Cornette.
On3 reported Gundy passed up other TV offers this season, including as a weekend studio analyst with ESPN and as a game analyst for Fox. The report said Gundy decided to stay out of the weekly cycle to spend time with his family, instead.
Gundy appeared
on ESPN's coaches film room broadcast for the national championship game between Indiana and Miami in 2025, but has largely stayed out of the public eye since being fired days after Oklahoma State's 19-12 upset loss to Tulsa last season.
Gundy was the second-longest tenured coach in FBS at the time of his firing, and is the winningest coach in Cowboys history. He nearly led the program to a national championship appearance in 2011, finishing the season ranked No. 3 in the US LBM Coaches Poll with a 12-1 record and a win over Stanford in the Fiesta Bowl.
After coming inches away from a Big 12 championship win in 2023, Gundy led Oklahoma State to a dismal 4-11 record before he was fired.
It's unclear if Gundy's TV role will last longer than a week, but the longtime coach known for his big personality would likely be a huge hit among fans.
