Only days after Democrats handed the GOP one of its largest electoral defeats in decades, President Donald Trump’s unpopularity has continued to grow, with his net approval rating sitting positive in only eight states.
According to the latest Civiqs state-by-state tracker, Trump has a negative net approval rating in 39 states. Three states are evenly split with a net approval rating of zero, while the president has positive net approval in just eight states.
Trump remains positive in Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming, all states he carried in the past three presidential elections.
Of the states backing the president, Wyoming remains his strongest state, with his net approval rating at 17%; meanwhile,
Oklahoma and Kansas are among his weakest, with Trump sitting at a net approval rating of just 1%.
Here's Trump's approval by state following a lopsided midterms.
Trump approval by state
Trump’s unpopularity continues to grow in several states he carried in the 2024 presidential election, with Nov. 3’s electoral drubbing only the latest example of his continued fall in the polls.
A blue tsunami
The president has had better weeks, as his polling numbers and political party have taken a hit.
Rather than seeing a slew of bad approval polls like in other recent weeks, Trump instead got an electoral bashing, with his Republican Party seeing one of its worst nights in recent history.
As of Friday, Nov. 6, Democrats are within striking distance of 56 Senate seats, with tight races in Alaska and historically deep-red Mississippi still too close to call. In the House of Representatives, Democrats are on track to win their largest majority since 2008, at 249 seats with more than 20 races still to be called.
Among the highest-profile seats Democrats gained on Tuesday were historically Republican Senate seats in Texas, South Carolina, Iowa and Kansas, where Democrats had not won a Senate seat since the 1930s.
