Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman is underwater with his own party while being popular with Republicans, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released on Oct. 7
Amongst Democrats, only 13% have a favorable opinion of Fetterman, while 69% have an unfavorable opinion of him – according to the poll.
Fetterman has drawn ire from within the Democratic party for breaking with the Senate caucus on some votes, as well as his strong support for Israel. He has also received scorn for appearances on Fox News and at the Republican midterm convention.
The poll found that 72% of Republicans had a favorable opinion of the Democratic senator, while 19% had an unfavorable opinion. It also found that 49% of independents had an unfavorable view of Fetterman.
Overall, 37% of respondents had a favorable view of Fetterman while 46% had an unfavorable view and 16% hadn't heard enough about him.
The poll is the latest that points to Fetterman being more popular among Republicans than Democrats.
In an August poll conducted by The New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer and Siena University, Fetterman was viewed favorably by 79% of self-identified Republicans, while only 20% of self-identified Democrats supported him.
What else did the poll find?
The poll also surveyed the Pennsylvania governor's race. Incumbent Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro had 59% support amongst likely voters, according to the poll, while Republican challenger Stacy Garrity had 34%.
Respondents gave Shapiro a 63% job approval rating and gave Fetterman a 50% job disapproval rating in the survey.
When asked about how President Donald Trump has performed in office, Pennsylvania likely voters gave him a 60% disapproval rating. Trump won the state in 2024 by 1.4%.
More than 60% of respondents in the poll said that AI data centers in Pennsylvania will do more harm than good, though the responses largely fell along partisan lines.
Eighty percent of Democrats think AI data centers in Pennsylvania will do more harm than good, while Republicans were split, with 44% saying they would do more good and 40% saying they would do more harm. Independents were largely against data centers, with 72% saying they would do more harm than good.
The Quinnipiac poll of 1,159 likely voters was taken in Pennsylvania from Oct. 1 through Oct. 5 with a margin of error of +/- 3.9%. It is the first poll of likely voters in the state from Quinnipiac in the 2026 election cycle.
