What is the story about?

Casey's, the ultra popular convenience store chain, is continuing its expansion as 2026 comes to a close and we barrel toward 2027.

The company operates nearly 3,000 convenience stores across 19 states

and is currently the third-largest convenience store retailer and fifth-largest pizza chain in the United States, according to its website, and is continuing to add to its predominantly-Midwestern and Southern footprint.

Casey's told USA TODAY it is slated to open 31 new stores through January 2027, with locations opening in states such as Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Ohio and Oklahoma, among others. This is in addition to the 19 stores the company has opened since May.

The chain offers everyday items you would expect from a typical convenience store,

such as drinks, candy and chips, in addition to pizza, wings, sandwiches and breakfast items. The Ankeny, Iowa-headquartered company also offers self-service fuel stations.

The first Casey's opened in Boone, Iowa in 1968 and, according to its website, has "found success opening stores in small towns across Iowa," with about two-thirds of its stores found in areas with populations of 20,000 or fewer.

Ankeny-based Casey's General Store bought 40 locations from Pilot.
