During the month of October, Social Security payments follow a normal schedule.
Social Security benefits, paid mostly to recipients who are older or retired, typically go out on Wednesdays. If your birthday falls between the first and 10th days of the month, your payment is scheduled to arrive on the second Wednesday of the month (for October, that is Oct. 14), according to the Social Security Administration’s calendar. Only one other time during the year (Jan. 14) has the first payments come out so late in the month.
If you were born between the 11th and 20th, you get paid on the third Wednesday of the month (Oct. 21); those born after the 20th of the month are paid on the fourth Wednesday of the month (Oct. 28), according to the SSA calendar.
Social Security recipients who began getting benefits before May 1997 are scheduled to be paid on Oct. 3.

The check you get in October is technically your Social Security retirement benefits for September, while your October benefits are covered by the check that arrives the following month, according to the SSA. Here's the SSA’s schedule:
- Wednesday, Oct. 14: Birth dates between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- Wednesday, Oct. 21: Birth dates between the 11th and 20th of the month.
- Wednesday, Oct. 28: Birth dates between the 21st and 31st of the month.
SSI payment schedule for October and the rest of 2026
Supplemental Security Income, which is also administered by the SSA, is a benefit program for persons with limited or no income or resources, those 65 or older, those who are blind or have a qualifying disability, including children with a disability, according to the SSA website.
SSI recipients are typically issued payments on the first business day of the month – in October, that is Thursday, Oct. 1. Occasionally, as in the month of October, recipients may get two checks because the first business day of the following month (in this case, November) is on a weekend or holiday.
