As fall kicks off, a nor'easter is developing off the East Coast, with the potential to impact Pennsylvania ahead of the weekend.
The affects of the storm were likely to be felt as early as Sept. 24 evening in some areas, including the eastern parts of Pennsylvania, with some areas likely to see flooding, heavy winds and potential power outages. Major cities expected to feel the impacts of the storm included Washington, D.C., Boston and New York. But will the storm impact Pittsburgh?
Here's what the National Weather Service says.
Will the nor'easter impact Pittsburgh?
While a nor'easter is likely to bring strong winds and rain to much of the East Coast, Pittsburgh is expected to see mostly sunny skies through the weekend and into the final week of September, according to the National
Weather Service office in Pittsburgh.
NWS predicted below-normal temperatures into the weekend, though they were likely to return toward normal around Saturday or Sunday. Models showed rain was unlikely over the weekend, though storms could develop around Tuesday or Wednesday as September came to a close.
Here's a look at the upcoming forecast in Pittsburgh:
- Friday, Sept. 25: High of 71, low of 48; sunny with wind up to eight miles per hour.
- Saturday, Sept. 26: High of 73, low of 50; sunny with wind up to nine miles per hour.
- Sunday, Sept. 27: High of 70, low of 52; mostly sunny.
- Monday, Sept. 28: High of 69, low of 52; mostly sunny.
- Tuesday, Sept. 29: High of 73, low of 56; mostly sunny.
- Wednesday, Sept. 30: High of 76; mostly sunny.
Nor'easter to bring coastal flooding, heavy rain, strong wind gusts
The impacts of a nor'easter were likely to be felt by the evening of Sept. 24 and continue through the weekend, with much of the East Coast affected, according to NWS. The Mid-Atlantic Coast could see wind gusts in excess of 45 miles per hour and power outages into Sept. 25 before the storm was likely to shift to New England for the remainder of the weekend.
The risk of flooding was spread over coastal and eastern areas of multiple states, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Delaware, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Virginia was at the highest risk for major flooding, with the upper edge of North Carolina and lower parts of Maryland also seeing a potential for major flooding. For most states, there was a minor to moderate risk of flooding expected.
Most rain was likely to fall along the coast from Long Island up to Maine, with Massachusetts to see up to six inches of rainfall along its coast.
