Quarterback Koa Malau'ulu and the St. John Bosco Braves are headed to Las Vegas for a showdown with Bishop Gorman to help kick off the 2026 high school football season.The game will carry huge implications early on, as both teams are ranked in the Top 2 in USA TODAY Sports' Super 15 regional rankings.Bosco is ranked No. 1 in the West rankings, followed by Bishop Gorman, but the game will also be monitored at a national level.The two teams were ranked No. 2 (St. John Bosco) and No. 3 (Bishop Gorman), respectively, in the final USA TODAY Sports preseason Super 25, behind IMG Academy of Bradenton, Florida.Malau'ulu will be tasked with helping lead the Braves offense against a Bishop Gorman defense led by cornerback Hayden Stepp, who is committed
to Oregon.Bosco is coming off a 9-2 season, having won nine straight before losing the final two games of the season. The Braves fell to Mater Dei in the final game of Trinity League play before dropping a shocking 20-19 loss to Orange Lutheran in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.Bishop Gorman has already picked up a 41-0 victory to start the season, defeating Somerset Academy Losee of North Las Vegas on Aug. 14.Bishop Gorman posted an 11-1 record last season, with the only loss coming against Mater Dei, 27-24. The Gaels bounced back nicely with a 14-0 victory over Santa Margarita, who won in the CIF State Championship Game last season.
