President Donald Trump continued his love affair with New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart during a speech at the White House on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
In his speech, Trump lamented Dart has suffered a season-ending knee injury before going on a tangent discussing the support he had received from the 23-year-old quarterback at a campaign-style rally for Rep. Mike Lawler on May 22 in in Suffern, New York
"He's a little hurt right now," Trump said, referencing Dart. "Good quarterback, but he endorsed Trump so heavily and he took a little heat from a rather liberal group of people in the NFL."
Trump went on to claim those upset by Dart were the "people who put on the halftime shows," which he acknowledged he "doesn't get."
The president then continued
to laud Dart, also claiming the second-year quarterback had the No. 1 selling jersey in the NFL after his appearance at the rally.
"So, Jaxson Dart, who's a great, talented, very handsome guy. And he loved Trump," Trump said. "He wanted to introduce me at a big rally – I had a big rally; thousands of people – he got up and he said nice things. He took a lot of heat. And then the next day, his jersey was the No. 1 selling jersey in the NFL. Isn't that great?"
There is no evidence to corroborate Trump's claim about Dart's jersey sales. The only reference to sales of Dart's jersey following the rally came from the account NFL Drop – which describes itself as a satire account – on X.
Regardless, Trump continued on with his praise of Dart and wished him well as he recovers from a season-ending injury to his MCL and meniscus.
"I just want him to get better because we love him," Trump said of Dart. "He got hurt. It's a dangerous game."
Trump then went on a separate, mini-tangent about his disdain for the NFL's "ridiculous" kick-off rule, which he has publicly decried on numerous occasions.
