Olivia Moultrie suffered an ACL tear in Portland Thorns training last week and has been placed on the season-ending injury list, the Thorns announced Tuesday, Aug. 11.
The 20-year-old had been enjoying an excellent NWSL season, scoring five goals and dishing out five assists in 16 matches. Now, that season is over after she suffered a right knee injury.
"Olivia is one of the most driven players I have been around, and she will use that drive during her recovery and rehabilitation,” Portland Thorns president and GM of soccer operations Jeff Agoos said in a news release. “She has our full support and every resource this club can put behind her."
Will Olivia Moultrie have a chance to make the Women's World Cup roster?
It is a tight timeline for the 20-year-old to be ready for the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil.
Players
typically are sidelined for nine months to a year for an ACL tear, and the Women's World Cup kicks off June 24, 2027 − 10 months and two weeks from when Moultrie suffered the injury.
U.S. manager Emma Hayes also would need to feel confident Moultrie was ready to contribute, not simply return to the field, making it a very tight timeline for the California native to be back fit and eligible for selection.
