Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez's wedding could have been the royal wedding of soccer.
Instead, the couple was intentional about having an intimate event, they shared inan interview conducted with Vogueahead of their nuptials that was published on Sunday, Aug. 16.
“When I was a little girl, I dreamt of the biggest castle, the biggest carriage, the longest dress, a crown full of diamonds," Rodríguez told the fashion publication. "And now I’m saying: no. I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home. Because castles, houses, islands, horses, cars: We have all of that within reach every day. But something intimate - that’s more unusual for us."

Ronaldo and Rodríguez wed on Sunday,
Aug. 11 to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of when they met at a Gucci store in Madrid. They announced their union on Instagramwith a photo of their hands with wedding bands. The event was a year after she announced their engagementon the social media platform with a photo of a massive diamond ring. In 2016, Ronaldo was shopping at the luxury boutique and Rodríguez was a sales associate who wasn't even scheduled to work that day, but was covering a shift for a friend.
“That’s destiny,” she said in the same interview where thefive-time Ballon d'Or winner suggested that the upcoming soccer season with Al-Nassr will be his last before retirement. In this summer's World Cup, he scored three goals for Portugal, including his first in a World Cup knockout round, before beingousted in the round of 16 by eventual champion Spain.
It only made sense that the couple wore Gucci, designed by the house's artistic director Demna, for their wedding day. She wore a white skirt suit with satin pumps featuring the brand's signature horsebit. He donned a custom cotton beige suit with loafers featuring the horsebit as well.
“It felt incredibly special to dress Georgina and Cristiano for this moment, knowing their love story began in a Gucci store in Madrid,” Demna said. “There is something so romantic about it - a beautiful circle closing, almost like a modern fairy tale.”

The ceremony was held in the couple's living room at their home in Cascais, Portugal. Their five children were the only attendees. The youngest two are the couple's children together; Ronaldo had three children before his relationship with Rodríguez.
“It will be a special day, spent in a normal way," Ronaldo said. He and the entrepreneur even worked out together that morning.
After the wedding ceremony, the family then drove about an hour away to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima to conclude the day with mass.
“I needed nothing more," Rodríguez reflected after, "my husband, my children, our home, our faith, and our love."
