OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude experienced widespread issues on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 3.
Open AI issued a status update that indicated "elevated errors" for ChatGPT and Codex, an AI coding software, as of 11:30 a.m. ET. The tech company said in its update it had applied mitigation and was monitoring for recovery. More than 38,000 users also reported issues with ChatGPT as of 11 a.m. ET, according to Downdetector, a site that tracks live online outages.
The bulk of outage reports were filed in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco, according to Downdetector.
Anthropic attributed the outage to infrastructure issues. "We're working on it but don't have an ETA yet," Anthropic technical staffer CJ Avilla wrote in a post
on X.
