October’s first college football weekend featured some dramatic moments but no results that appreciably altered the sport’s landscape. There are thus only minor changes in the US LBM Coaches Poll, with just one top-10 team tasting defeat.
The first seven teams in the rankings remain the same, headed by No. 1 Texas. The Longhorns, who had the weekend off, received 45 of 74 first-place votes on the eve of the Red River showdown with Oklahoma. Georgia remains No. 2 following a romp past Vanderbilt. The Bulldogs claimed 20 top votes this week with a huge showdown with No. 7 Alabama on the horizon.
Notre Dame holds at No. 3 with a single first-place nod. Miami (Fla.) remains at No. 4 with a decisive win at Clemson. No. 5 Indiana holds the last eight
first-place votes, with No. 6 Ohio State continuing to top the list of once-beaten squads.

The No. 8 spot occupied by Florida a week ago now goes to Brigham Young, moving up a spot along with No. 9 Texas Tech. LSU is back in the top 10, as the Gators tumble to seven places to No. 15 after dropping their first game of the season at Missouri. That result also gave the Tigers a nine-position bump in the rankings to No. 16.
Iowa and Mississippi State, both defeated by other ranked squads, fall just four places each to No. 18 and No. 20 respectively. No. 24 Pittsburgh and No. 25 Kentucky move into the poll as Michigan and Penn State drop out.
