Tulare County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a plane down near Teapot Dome and Newcomb around 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 1.
When deputies arrived, they found the aircraft in a field near Porterville
Airport with smoke coming from the plane. Investigators learned the aircraft had been attempting to land when it slid off the runway and came to rest in the nearby field.
All six people on board, including the two pilots, safely exited the aircraft.
Several roads in the area were temporarily closed to allow emergency crews access to the scene. Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area while first responders continue their work.
The investigation is ongoing, and more information is expected as it becomes available.
