After just two seasons at St. Viator High School (IL), former Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould has resigned as head coach of the Lions' football team.
In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, the school said Gould would be stepping away to spend more time with his family. However, he will continue to help senior athletes at the school as they work to get recruited.
In his two seasons at the school, Gould went 3-15. The Lions finished this season 2-7 and wrapped up the 2026 season with a 53-6 win over De La Salle (IL) on Oct. 16.
"We are grateful to Coach Gould for his leadership, dedication, and commitment to our student-athletes," Saint Viator High School President Ryan Aiello, the school's president, said in the statement. "We appreciate
his contributions to Saint Viator football, respect his decision to prioritize his family and wish him all the best."
The statement noted that Gould will also assist with the leadership transition as needed.
"Our commitment to Saint Viator football extends beyond any one coach," Athletic Director Nick Sobieszczyk said. "We are investing in the future of this program, and our student-athletes will remain our top priority. We are focused on finding the right leader to guide the next chapter of Saint Viator football."
Gould was a long-time staple in Chicago, having spent 11 of his 18 NFL seasons with the Bears. Undrafted out of the 2005 NFL Draft, the Bears picked him up that year, and he went on to connect on 85% of his field goal attempts during his time in Chicago.
He is the franchise's all-time leader in points (1,207), field goals made (276), 50-plus yard field goals (23), and field goal percentage (85.4%).
After his time with Chicago, Gould played for the New York Giants for a season before spending six seasons in San Francisco and retiring after the 2022 season. Over his career, he connected on 86.5% (447-517) of his field goals, scored 1,961 points, and connected on a career-long 58-yard field goal in 2013.
