Basic airfare has now entered the first-class cabin. United Airlines is launching a new lower-end ticket for first-class flights, called base.
Starting in fall 2026, United First and United Business passengers will be able to choose from three fare options for eligible routes: flexible, standard and base, according to its website.
The new base fare will be the lowest tier for the first-class cabin and will also come with more restrictions, such as seat selection for a fee and fewer checked baggage items.
"You can select the tier with benefits that fit your travel needs," the airline said on its website. "No matter which tier you select, your fare will include the same elevated onboard experience offered in that cabin."
United Airlines did not immediately
respond to USA TODAY's request for comment.
This is just the latest announcement the Chicago-based airline has made regarding changes to its flight experience. In March, the Chicago-based airline said it would introduce a Relax Row, made up of three special economy seats that can transform into a couch for passengers to lie down and stretch out. The new seating option will start in 2027 and be available on over 200 aircraft by 2030. Passengers in its premium Polaris suites found on long-haul flights will soon be able to close their privacy doors for a quieter flight.

- Flexible: Free seat selection, two checked bags, one carry-on, flight changes and ticket refunds.

- Base: Seat selection for a fee, one checked bag, one carry-on and United Club access. No flight changes or ticket refunds.
- Standard: Free seat selection, two checked bags, one carry-on, United Club access and flight changes. No ticket refunds.
- Flexible: Free seat selection, two checked bags, one carry-on, United Club access, flight changes and ticket refunds.
