The latest AVCA Coaches Poll has been released, and the top two spots remain unchanged as women's volleyball transitions from non-conference into conference play.
Nebraska went a perfect 3-0 last week, though it did drop a surprising set to Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday, Sept. 20. The Cornhuskers opened the week with a sweep of No. 20 Creighton behind standout performances from Andi Jackson and Kenna Cogill, then added another top-25 victory by defeating No. 25 North Carolina.
No. 2 Pitt had the week off before starting ACC play on Friday against California.
No. 6 Wisconsin bounced back from a 1-1 trip to No. 7 Texas by defeating in-state rivals Marquette
and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to enter the Big Ten portion of its schedule with a 6-4 record in non-conference play. Decelise Champion, Wisconsin's 17-year-old outside hitter from Puerto Rico, led the Badgers with 20 kills while hitting .441 in their reverse-sweep victory over Marquette.
Sept. 20 also featured several high-profile matchups that should impact rankings, including: No. 4 Kentucky beating No. 3 Louisville in four sets; No. 16 Tennessee upsetting No. 9 Penn State on the road in Happy Valley; and No. 15 Texas A&M handing No. 20 Creighton its fifth straight loss of the season.
Elsewhere, Kansas State moved to 7-0 on the young season with its win over Creighton. And Arizona State picked up its fourth ranked win of the season in a sweep over No. 8 Stanford. The win was powered by 15 kills from outside hitters Aniya Clinton and Una Vajagic and 45 assists from setter Elle Mottola.
