A popular brand of Canadian-made cheese puffs is being recalled after food safety officials said the product was mislabeled and contained undeclared allergens.
According to a notice posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) website, Quebec-based Frankie’s Organic announced a recall on Wednesday, Aug. 12, of its 4-ounce bag of Frankie’s Organic Plant-Based Vegan Cheddar Puffs.
The recall was initiated as officials said the products have undeclared milk products. The FDA said the recall was announced after two complaints of allergic reactions from consuming the affected products were filed in Canada.
“The root cause has been found to be an ingredient at the supplier level of seasoning that contains the allergen. Frankie's Organic is
committed to implementing corrective actions following from the investigation of this event,” the recall notice said.
The FDA said in its notice that no other Frankie’s Organic products are impacted.
What product is affected by the recall?
According to the FDA, the product was sold at PCC Markets in Washington State as well as Earth Fare Stores in Florida and South Carolina.
The affected products are Frankie’s Organic Plant-Based Vegan Cheddar Puffs with the UPC number 816929000089 and a "best if used by" date of May 16, 2027.
Officials recommend that customers check their pantry for affected products and to discard or return the recalled cheese puffs for a full refund.
“At Frankie's Organic, the safety of consumers is the top priority. Frankie's Organic follows the highest possible food safety and quality control standards to ensure the safety and full enjoyment of its snacks,” the recall notice said.
