The San Diego Padres are back in the postseason for a third consecutive year.
They're on to the NLDS after they got the best of the Chicago Cubs, sweeping the best-of-3 wild card series. The Padres were one of three teams to sweep their wild card series matchup, along with the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees.
San Diego set the pace for the series with an 8-0 victory in Game 1 on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado helped lead the way. Tatis went 2 for 3 with three runs, a home run and an RBI. Machado also went 2 for 3 with two runs, a home run and an RBI.
The duo will need to produce similar numbers to help continue the Padres' push toward their first World Series championship. San Diego has only made the World Series twice,
first in 1984 before returning in 1998.
