Sean "Diddy" Combs' prison sentence just got shorter.
The rapper, 56, has a new release date of Jan. 21, 2028, according to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons' inmate records viewed by USA TODAY Tuesday, Sept. 29. He is currently incarcerated in New Jersey's FCI Fort Dix for his July 2025 conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
Combs, who denies all allegations of sexual misconduct, was ordered to 50 months behind bars in October, with his initial release set for May 8, 2028. In the time since, he has seen multiple shifts in that date, both extending and reducing his sentence.
Sean 'Diddy' Combs' expected release continues to shift
Modifications to an inmate's release date can happen for a variety of reasons, including good behavior, time served and participation in Evidence-Based
Recidivism Reduction or Productive Activities.
The first change occurred in November, shortly after Combs began serving his sentence, when his release was pushed back one month amid reports that he created and consumed alcohol in prison, which his representative denied at the time.
The date was later moved up three times – to April 25, 2028, then again to Feb. 23, 2028 and later to Jan. 24, 2028. In August, however, the former music mogul experienced a major delay to Feb. 20, 2028 due to a reported prison fight that landed him in solitary confinement.
Earlier this month, Combs was given another early release date of Feb. 5, 2028. The latest shift to January 2028 is the earliest yet.
Combs' 2025 trial lasted two months and ended in a jury finding him guilty of transporting several women – including two former girlfriends Casandra "Cassie" Ventura Fine and an anonymous "Jane," along with sex workers – for the purpose of paid sexual encounters.
In letter to the judge ahead of his sentencing, Combs said he got sober "for the first time in 25 years," had been attending therapy and started a mentorship program for his fellow inmates. He has also maintained efforts to appeal his conviction.
President Donald Trump revealed last year that Combs reached out to his administration seeking a pardon, which the president has indicated he will not grant.
The Bad Boy Records founder still faces more than 70 civil lawsuits across the country, with the most recent filed in June by a former child actor.
