Raven Chapman, a female British boxer who challenged for a world title two years ago, had emergency surgery for a brain bleed following a collapse during a sparring session in Denmark on July 24, according to her management team, Vote Boxing.
Chapman, 32, was diagnosed with a brain hematoma and cerebral edema – conditions that can result in bleeding and swelling of the brain – and is recovering from the surgery, her management team disclosed in a post on Instagram.
The surgical procedure stopped the bleeding, helped stabilize the swelling and she was then placed in a medically induced coma, Vote Boxing said in a statement posted on Instagram.
"Over the past day," the statement reads, “she has been taken off the sedatives and is continuing to receive
treatment while awaiting medically supervised repatriation to a hospital in the UK, where her rehabilitation is expected to take some time.’’
Chapman fought Skye Nicolson for the WBC featherweight title in 2024 and lost by unanimous decision.
