Formula 1 is going faster.
The motorsport seriesreleased its 2027 calendar on Wednesday, Sept. 16 and there is a record 10 sprint races. The number is four more than this season, which featured six of the shorter,
zippier competitions across the calendar.
There are a total of 24 competitions starting in mid-March with the Bahrain Grand Prix, which replaces the Australian Grand Prix as the launch of the season. The race in Melbourne has been bumped to the third race of the campaign. It all wraps up in mid-December with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
F1 keeps a similar structure as this season to emphasize sustainability and efficiency. That means that the famed Monaco Grand Prix is the first weekend of June again instead of on Memorial Day weekend as part of the "Greatest Day in Motorsport." There will be a sprint race in 2027 for the first time at Monaco.
Two races return to the F1 calendar in 2027 after an absence. The 22 drivers will race in Portugal after a break since the 2020 and 2021 competitions. There will be a grand prix in Turkey, as well. Istanbul also hosted F1 back in 2020 and 2021, when Lewis Hamilton clinched his record-tying seventh championship, before its contract ended.
The Madring gets another chance at action with the Spanish Grand Prix. Kimi Antonelli won this year's race, which marked F1's first time racing in Madrid in 45 years.
The three United States races remain the same with Miami happening in early May, the Austin race in late October and the Las Vegas Grand Prix in late November.
The Dutch Grand Prix, the home race of Max Verstappen, is no longer on the calendar.
