Jay-Z hosted the world premiere for his HBO documentary series on Sept. 13, drawing a crowd that included wife Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, plus Tina Knowlesand other celebrity guests.
The rap titan launched his forthcoming "Jay-Z in 8" docuseries on Sunday at New York's Metropolitan Opera House. It was a star-studded, Black tie event.
The Grammy-winning rapper arrived on the red carpet donning a spiffy tuxedo. He set the tone for the evening's lineup of celebrities on the red carpet, which included Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, Yo Gotti, Charlemagne tha God, Winnie Harlow, rapper Gunna, the film's director, Rick Rubin, and more. While she did not appear on the red carpet ahead of the premiere, Beyoncé and her mother slipped into the theater just as the screening
began.
The upcoming HBO documentary series features an intimate and candid sit-down with the rapper and his longtime friend and producer, Rubin, to reflect on decades of music, lyrics, life experiences and creative experiments. The first two episodes of the series will premiere on HBO Max on Sept. 18.
The trailer for the upcoming HBO docuseries, "Jay-Z in 8," was released Aug. 25, offering fans a first look at the eight-part series. The Grammy-winning rapper, who recently adopted the stylized name JAŸ-Z in a nod to his 1996 debut album "Reasonable Doubt," said in the trailer that he was around 9 years old when he "caught the bug of being obsessed. I would write every day."
The trailer notes that the series will feature songs from "Reasonable Doubt" (1996), "The Black Album" (2003), "The Dynasty: Roc La Familia" (2000), "American Gangster" (2007), "Watch the Throne" (2011), "The Blueprint" (2001), "Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter" (1999), and "4:44" (2017).
Jay-Z recently wrapped the European leg of his "Jay-Z 30" concert series, delivering a massive show at the Stade de France in Paris, on Sept. 10. During the spectacle, he brought out special guests Pharrell Williams and Justin Timberlake.
He is set to perform two more shows in Los Angeles on Oct. 23 and Oct. 24.
