The San Francisco 49ers are one of the hottest teams in the NFL after a 4-0 start to the 2026 season, but their injuries have mounted week after week.
The Niners had injuries sustained to a few players in their 24-14 win Sunday against the Denver Broncos including losing Kyle Juszczyk to a knee injury.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters in a conference call on Monday that Juszczyk had a "knee hyperextension with bone bruise" that would force him to sit a few weeks. With their 10-time Pro Bowl fullback temporarily sidelined, Shanahan has begun to gameplan possibilities for the next man up to fill his void.
"Yeah, (tight end) Luke (Farrell) and Brayden (Willis) and (tight end George) Kittle. They’re all pretty interchangeable, but it'll
definitely get Brayden some more ops," Shanahan said. "(Tight end Jake) Tonges would do that for us last year, the last couple of years, and lost him Week 1 and Brayden's been ready for this role.”

49ers injuries updates
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided the latest on some of their injured players on the roster:
Nick Bosa, DL
There was an update on 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa after he sustained a calf injury during warm-ups in Week 3.
Shanahan said the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year is still out with his injury and "probably not expecting to get (him) back this week."
James Thompson, DL
Another defensive lineman received an update from Shanahan. He told reporters Monday during a conference call that James Thompson won't be available in the upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Thompson has ruled out with an ankle injury.
Mykel Williams, DE
Mykel Williams has been out recovering from a torn ACL injury suffered during Week 9 of the 2025 season. He was removed from PUP list on Sept. 30, signaling that Williams will soon be available to suit up again. He is hopeful to be ready to play against the Seahawks in Week 5, Shanahan said.
"Mykel, hopefully practice keeps going well, has a good week of practice and hopefully we can get him activated at the end of the week," he said. "But, it depends how the week goes.”
Marques Sigle, safety
Marques Sigle suffered a high ankle sprain in San Francisco's win. Sigle was injured on a kickoff return with 2:08 left in the game against the Broncos.
Sigle went to make a play on Broncos returner RJ Harvey going helmet first. After the play, Sigle remained on the turf as he was tended to by team medical staff. Sigle was helped on to his feet and he slowly walked to the locker room.
Shanahan said Sigle would be out but didn't the length of his absence.
"Marques Sigle had a high ankle sprain," Shanahan said. "He'll miss some time."
Upton Stout, CB
Upton Stout was another 49ers player injured during Sunday's win versus the Broncos. Shanahan told reporters after the game that Stout had an AC sprain in his shoulder.
He provided a timeline on Monday for Stout, alluding that the 24-year-old is questionable for Sunday.
"Upton Stout with a shoulder AC sprain. He’ll be day-to-day," Shanahan said. "We’ll have to manage him through the week to see if we can get him to Sunday."
