WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Thursday, Aug. 6, is set to host more than 120 athletes who competed for Team USA in the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games in Milano Cortina, Italy, according to the White House.
The evening celebration, which will take place at the White House Rose Garden, is scheduled to include members of the USA Winter Olympic teams for figure skating, curling, luge, speedskating, bobsledding, snowboarding, and alpine skiing, among other sports, as well as Paralympic athletes in several sports.
"President Trump will proudly celebrate Team USA’s historic achievements at the Winter Olympics with a special reception at the People’s House," White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said in a statement. "Our patriotic
athletes showed the world American excellence, and their extraordinary performances united us all in our love of country."
One of the biggest Winter Olympic athletes set to attend is speedskater Jordan Stolz, who memorably placed his gold medal around Trump's neck at a June Trump rally in Wisconsin.
Not all 2026 Team USA Olympics will be in attendance, according to a list of guests provided by the White House. That includes members of the gold-winning U.S. men's hockey team, who Trump already met with in the Oval Office in February following their victory.
No members of the U.S. women's hockey team, which also won the gold, are scheduled to be at the event either. The women's hockey team declined Trump's invitation to attend his State of the Union address in February.
His offer came after Trump, in a victory call with the men's hockey team, joked that he would "probably would be impeached" if he didn't also invite the women's team to the White House. Members of the men's team attended the speech.
Freestyle halfpipe skier Hunter Hess, who Trump called a "real loser" for saying he had "mixed emotions" representing the United States in the Winter Games, is also not listed as an attendee.
In all, 232 Olympians represented Team USA in this year's Winter Olympics ‒ the most ever ‒ with 33 earning medals and 12 taking home gold. An additional 72 Paralympians competed for Team USA, with 24 earning medals, including 13 golds.
The 12 gold medals won at the Milano Cortina Games were the most Team USA has taken home at a single Winter Olympics. The 13 gold medals won by the Paralympic winter team tied for its most for a single winter games over the past 20 years.
